The fashion house of Halston was founded in the 1970s by Roy Halston Frowick.Halston started making hats and altering his mother's and his sister's clothes when he was a child. A short newspaper article about the hats he designed convinced him to eventually open a shop in 1957.He moved to New York the same year and went on to work for several hat designers before he eventually became head milliner for Bergdorf Goodman. His talent was much talked-about and by the early 1960s his creations were worn by Hollywood A-listers Lauren Hutton, Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Bianca Jagger, Liza Minelli and others. He understood that launching a brand bearing his own name would be profitable and he entered a license agreement which made his fashion accessible to women from all sorts of financial backgrounds. In 1974 he released his first self-titled perfume, his own perfume, in collaboration with Elsa Peretti who designed the bottle. Halston Classic, the first women's perfume under the brand name of Halston, was launched the following year. The scent is composed around chypre and floral notes and has been a favourite for more than 3 decades so far.Another men's fragrance, Halston 1-12, was launched in 1976.After a break from the world of perfumery, Halston 101 for men and Halston Couture for women were launched in the 1980s. After the passing of Roy Halston Frowick in 1990, the fragrance Unbound for women was released. In the year after a men's version of Unbound hit the shelves.
